How to Style Your Outfits for Senior Photoshoots: Tips from Your Photographer

Updated June 6th, 2024

Before you start, I want you to remember the following

LIFE IS A PARTY, SO DRESS LIKE IT.

I am not your average photographer. I love wearing bright and bold colors! Hot pink & red are the two colors that I look best in, so I typically stand out in a crowd when I wear them, and honestly I feed DANG good doing it. Don’t be afraid to be different. And don’t let the opinion of others stop you from dressing how you want to! Be different, be unique, be YOU! I am here to help you dress the part for your portraits, so please reach out if you are having troubles putting some outfits together!! FaceTime, Text, in person. I got you :)

Senior photoshoots are a special milestone, and I want to help you look your best for this memorable occasion. Your outfit plays a significant role in how your photos turn out, so I have compiled some tips to ensure you feel confident and stylish. Here are three great tips and three things to avoid when styling your outfits for your senior photoshoot.

Three Great Tips for Styling Your Outfits

1. Reflect Your Personality Your senior photos should capture who you are, so choose outfits that reflect your personal style. Whether you prefer casual, sporty, boho, or chic, cowgirl, make sure your clothing choices feel authentic to you. Do you love wearing bell bottoms today? Bring them to the shoot!! Let's rock them. This will help you feel comfortable and confident in front of the camera.

2. Coordinate, Don't Match If you plan to include friends or family in some of your photos, coordinating outfits is key. Choose a color palette and style that complements each other without being too matchy-matchy. For example, if you choose a pastel color scheme, each person can wear different shades within that palette.

3. Consider the Location Think about where your photoshoot will take place and choose outfits that suit the setting. If your shoot is outdoors in a natural setting, earthy tones and flowy fabrics can look beautiful. For an urban shoot, trendy and modern outfits might work best. The right outfit can enhance the overall aesthetic of your photos.

Three Things to Avoid

1. Avoid Busy Patterns and Logos While patterns can add interest to an outfit, overly busy prints can be distracting in photos. Similarly, large logos or graphics can take the focus away from you. Stick to solid colors or subtle patterns that won't compete with the scenery or your expressions.

2. Don't Overdo Accessories Accessories can add a nice touch to your outfit, but too many can be overwhelming. Choose a few key pieces that complement your look without stealing the spotlight. Remember, the focus should be on you, not your accessories. I am a huge lover of stable pieces, but only one. So if you have a big necklace, keep your earrings simple or vise versus. But accessories are key to truly styling your outfit.

3. Stay Away from Trendy Fads While it might be tempting to wear the latest fashion trends, remember that these photos will be cherished for years to come. Avoid outfits that might look dated in a few years. Instead, opt for classic styles that stand the test of time and will always look good.

By following these tips, you'll be well-prepared to look your best for your senior photoshoot. Remember, the most important thing is to be yourself and have fun. We can't wait to capture this special moment for you!
